Fond Thanksgiving Memories: Thank you!

Chris and I would like to thank each and every one of you for helping to make the celebration at Buxpond a very special event! I don't think I've ever enjoyed a more peaceful and interesting time of fellowship and fun. Here are some pictures to help you with your memories....

What did you do this week?
Boy...I'm tired...
This week, I was in Reno Nevada for the Supercomputing Conference. Over 10,000 people attend this thing, and it's a major event for High Performance Computing partners throughout the world. I met with 65 people (yes, and most of them use terms I have to look up in Wiki later).... I sure miss Buxpond, and I can't wait to see my people and my dog!!
Here are some pictures I thought you guys would enjoy.
Love,
Momma Joy

The End of an Era: Gramma and Grampa move....
How many people can say they lived in the same house for 42 years? In this day and age, I'd say not very many...Did you realize you are close to a couple who can actually say that, and have now made the move to a new home, in a new city? Now that takes backbone, fortitude and resolve...Hmmm...Sounds like Gramma Cathy and Grampa Chuck!
You can now find them at their new, very posh, condo at 1501 Countryside Lane. They are in the midst of unpacking and buying new furniture. What a great example they are of keeping life interesting.
There will always be wonderful memories of the house on Bruce in Villa Grove. Some of us have more interesting ones than others...Will you share your most favorite memory?
Here are some pictures of the house without their furniture and also the new owners. Don't they look like the perfect couple to take over the Henderson house? She is a nurse who is the same height as Gramma, and he is a contractor who has lots of tools like Grampa!

Thanksgiving at Buxpond
Once again, Chris and I would like to invite all of our family (immediate and extended) to come to Buxpond for a Thanksgiving feast. We are planning to start festivities around 2pm, and go until everyone is more stuffed than the Turkey! BTW, this will be on Saturaday, Nov 24. This way, our blended families will have time to see others on the actual Thanksgiving day.
We'll be sending out emails, and hoping that you all post here about what you'd like to bring. We'll provide the meats and bread (Beef House Rolls...yummmmm) with the sides and others coming from our family! (who makes better mashed potatoes then Gramma Cathy?)
I promise to not cross contaminate myself this year....
See you soon!

Aubree's voice raises her to new heights!
Aubree recently competed at the regional vocal competition and left the other's sounding flat!
She will now go on to state competition. She was also first in her group.
We really need to get you kids together to sing at a family gathering....I can't see why not?

Seth Becomes PFC Miller!
In what was described as "unsurprising" and "expected" by his siblings, Seth has found himself climbing the Army latter faster then most previous new recruits in our nation's history! After less then 30 days at his new post in Grafenwoer Germany, Seth was informed he is now E3, or Private First Class. This means a pay increase and more ability to advance onto more training and opportunity.
Seth has recently purchased a car and now has his German driver's license....My experience in Germany tells me his driving habits will fit in quite well :)
We hope to have Seth post soon!

Lovely couple takes a new path....
So you all know, Seth i s now in Germany at Bramstad Army base. I've talked with him a few times, and he's very excited about being in a new country. He seems to love the food and the countryside. It is a very beautiful area. See it here:
We were sad to have to say goodbye, and it was especially hard to know that Rachel would be without him until a later time. We did have a great visit with her family. Mom Elaine and Dads Randy and Les were really very warm and caring people. They LOVE Seth, and that made me especially happy.
Please keep Rachel and Seth in your thoughts, and give Rachel a call to remind her we are here to support her. I'm trying to talk her into coming up for Thanksgiving here at Buxpond.

chenders finally decides oil prices are too high.
OK... 80 bucks a barrel, and we're not talking 55 gallon drums, the oil industry redefined the "barrel" as 42 gallons. Fooled us idiots though, didn't they? Hell, it takes half a barrel of oil to fill my truck (21 gallons), but that costs me 60+ friggin dollars. Not sure if they make GMC pickups that run on crude oil, but i'm looking. That would save me 20 bucks a tank. Where the hell is all this free oil from Iraq? I mean half the people I know say we went there for the oil, so if that's true, start shipping the stuff dammit. If the Army can't handle it, then turn it over to UPS or FedEx. I'm fairly sure we went there partially for oil, but not just Iraqi Oil, we're there for any oil within 1500 miles of Iraq. Hopefully that microwave - burning saltwater engine is for real and not a poorly conducted experiment. I better sleep a bit as I have a nice trip to Springfield tomorrow.

Chris and Joy in Alabama Holiday Inn....
So, after driving for 9.5 hours through beautiful Southern Illinois, Indiana, Tennesee and Alabama, we arrived in Huntsville and went directly to our hotel, the Holiday Inn. It's the only 'dog friendly' place in town, and actually turned out to be fairly nice. We were on the 'executive floor', which meant we got free drinks and appetizers along with breakfast.
We were really tired, so we asked Seth and the lovely Rachel to come to the hotel and have dinner. We drug ourselves down to the common area, pretty comfie - large oversized chairs and a wide screen television. It was there we met Carlos, a Robin Williams look a like if Robin Williams was a Spanish guy. He was our 'host' and set out to make us as happy as possible. With all the Jack Daniels one could drink and other beverages, let's just say we were soon very happy.
The amazing thing to us is how we ended up hearing this guy's life story, and just had a really great time with him. He bent over backwards for us, getting us dinner and treating Rachel and Seth like royalty. We have a new friend for life.
The next day, we were both paying for the night before with terrible hang overs. Serves us right...We drug ourselves down to the breakfast, and there we met Angela. Angela was our 'host' for breakfast. Once again, we bonded with Angela, sharing stories of raising kids, divorce, loss, courage and how we've all survived. Another friend for life!
I guess the point of this post is how we really are a very blessed (or fortunate, lucky, cool, wonderful - insert your adjective) family. And for this reason, we need to stay open to ways we can share that with people around the world. Everyday each of us comes in contact with humanity that needs an ear, a friend, or just a common opportunity to share life's adventures. It's easy to just stay to one's self, deciding to close everyone off. After all, we are ON VACATION DAMMIT! But you know what? That's not just not the kind of people we are happy and comfortable being. When we do that, we miss out on some really wonderful interactions, and sometimes, they are gifts which just make the time even more special.
Here endth the lesson....

Miller Heads for California, Alabama, then Germany,,,
That's right folks... Saturday afternoon is your last chance to see Seth before he heads west, then back southest.. Then WAY EAST... Starting Saturday afternoon at 2:30 Illinois takes the field against Missouri with the ultimate chance of starting out their season with a bang. The game will be on here at Buxpond, thanks to Directv and the Big10 Network. By 5:30 to 6pm the ribs will be soaking and tender, and ready to grill. Joy will be in the kitchen weilding her Lil'Porgys Sauce while Sam Adams will be taking care of the beer. Don't miss your chance to give Seth a hug and wish him luck in our countries 60+ year continued effort to rebuild and reorganize Germany and her government. Who knows, by 2025 we could be hearing "Mission Accomplished" in the Fatherland...
